If you have used DD-WRT firmware in the past, you probably have heard 'BrainSlayer" mentioned more than a few times. He has recently released a firmware update, version number r18777. In this release dated 03/19/2012 there is new firmware included for the WNDR3800. You can get this new firmware here. I have tested it and after a few wireless tweaks, it is working fairly well.
I installed BrainSlayer DD-WRT v24-sp2 build 22118 and also 23138 recently for my Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H (Atheros-based). I use a pppoe connection, with wan mtu=1492. Local lan mtu is 1500. Almost everything is fine except FTP. MLSD is only a symptom from what I've discovered. It happens that MLSD results are large enough (>MTU size) to cause the connection stall.
